Ressource Undercoat: the secret ingredient for long-lasting finishes

Ressource House of Paints and Wallpaper Design takes great pride in our large selection of colors and finishes. All our colors are saturated with pigment to ensure the best result that help you elevate your space. Ressource Full-Tone Paint Finishes and Effect Paints are also well-known for their high coverage that apply to surfaces with ease. Ressource Paints high coverage and saturated colors can be attributed to its well-developed formula but also use of our Ressource Undercoat.

For a majority of our paint finishes, whether from our Full-Tone Collections or from our Effect Paints, we recommend the use of our undercoat. This specially designed undercoat provides a porous surface that helps a variety of paint finishes adhere strongly to the surface.

A can of Ressource Undercoat, which is tinted to match each order and is recommended with most Ressource finishes.

For each order, the undercoat is also tinted to be the same color as the final finish. This allows the undercoat to act as a primary coat of color that, when followed by the desired finish, results in a fabulously rich, saturated product.

In our Full-Tone Paint Collection, Ressource Undercoat is strongly recommended for our Powder Matte, Matte Lacquer, Velvet Satin, Satin Lacquer, Glossy Lacquer, Floor Paint, and Ceiling Paint finishes. Without the undercoat, Ressource cannot guarantee the durability and final look of these finishes.

While Ressource is applied as a primary coat, it should not replace the use of a primer. While Ressource Undercoat is tinted and provides a surface for the final coat to adhere to, a primer is recommended to cover any existing surface stains and color.

When used with Ressource Full-Tone Paints, including Powder Matte, Matte Lacquer, Velvet Satin, Satin Lacquer, Glossy Lacquer, Floor Paint, and Ceiling Matte, Ressource undercoat can be applied using the following steps: on a smooth, primed surface, apply a single coat of Ressource Undercoat using a roller, brush, or airless spray gun. Ressource Undercoat can be thinned to assist in the application by diluting with 5% water. After one coat of the undercoat has been applied in a smooth and even layer, wait up to 5 hours before applying the final finish.

Ressource Undercoat is strongly recommended for use with Ressource Lime Paint. Due to lime paints’ natural properties, it requires a porous surface to help adhere to the wall. The use of the tinted undercoat also aids in the texture and movement that make lime paint so popular. For lime paint application, on a well sanded and primed surface, apply one coat of Ressource Undercoat using a roller, brush, or airless spray gun. The undercoat can be thinned using a 5% water dilution. Let the undercoat dry for at least 5 hours before applying the lime paint. Next, apply 2 coats of Ressource Lime Paint, waiting at least 5 hours between coats to allow the paint to dry.

We are happy to answer any application questions and have instructions and videos to share with painters.

Ressource Undercoat is also a necessary step in the application of Ressource Metallic Paint. One coat of tinted undercoat should be applied with a roller before applying 2 coats of the metallic finish. Wait for at least 5 hours between each coat to ensure the paint has had time to dry.

While Ressource Undercoat acts as a primary layer of tinted paint, it is different from Ressource Rough Primer and Mineral Undercoat, which are required steps in the application of Roman Plaster. Since plaster is heavier, the combination of Rough Primer and Mineral Undercoat provides the needed surface to increase surface area and distribute the weight.

Ressource Undercoat can be purchased through our online story or in person in our Manhattan Showroom. Our associated are free to answer any questions regarding this product, it's uses, and application instructions.
